According to the dyslexia diagnosis and treatment protocol, we call dyslexia a developmental disorder. As of January 1, 2022, the presence of another developmental disorder (for example ADHD or TOS in combination with a suspicion of dyslexia) is no longer a reason not to qualify for reimbursed dyslexia care. Until January 1, 2022, a child who has another developmental disorder in addition to a suspected dyslexia will only be eligible for reimbursed dyslexia care if the developmental problem is under control.

As of January 1, 2022, the care provider will examine how complex the combination of the two disorders is before starting treatment. On this basis, it is determined whether dyslexia treatment in a child will also be feasible – and a treatment indication for Severe Dyslexia (ED) can therefore be issued – or whether the child can be better helped via another care route. This change is the reason why we no longer speak of Severe Single Dyslexia (EED) but of Severe Dyslexia (ED). According to this new criteria, single is no longer applicable.

Voorwaarden toegang tot vergoede dyslexiezorg

To be eligible for reimbursed dyslexia care, students from clusters 2 and 4 must meet the same conditions as those that apply to children in a regular primary school. The school must be able to provide a complete student file. This must show that a student has received sufficient additional support in the field of reading at support levels 2 and 3. And what the results are of the tests that have been taken.

What a school must do to build up a complete student file, what support a school must offer in the areas of reading and spelling and what that support should look like can be found in the guidance for the implementation of support levels 2, 3 and 4. Via At this link you will also find a number of videos that explain the different support levels.

Handreiking taalontwikkelingsstoornissen en dyslexie

At the beginning of 2022, a guide will be developed on how to identify (severe) dyslexia in children with serious language development disorders or hearing impairments. When this is ready we will let you know onbalansdigitaal.nl and our social media.
